At Aura we are proud to have helped a number of hospitals to improve their sites using tensile fabric canopies.
At the Royal Free Hospital in London a gullwing design was used to create an attractive practical, cantilevered entrance canopy which, as you can see from the images, looks stunning when lit at night and provides a 100m long covered walkway.
We have found that tensile fabric structures really come into their own when the brief requires a hospital entrance feature that stands out clearly and creates a welcoming feeling for visitors and patients – you might say an inviting aura.
At Barnet hospital we helped to lift the visual appeal of the rectilinear building and signposted visitors to the maternity department by creating a 16m x 5m conic structure. The structure is lit at night using the light diffusing properties of the architectural fabric to provide a wonderfully welcoming feel for patients arriving then.
Gateshead hospital chose a hyperbolic paraboloid (Pringle) shape to fulfil the practical and aesthetic requirements for their new entrance canopy. If you are interested to learn more about how the different tensile fabric shapes can be utilised and specified please look at this page on our site.
Creating a better outside environment for patients and visitors
Our hospice and care home clients often ask us to help them improve the attraction and usability of their outside spaces and gardens. We find that our range of modular structures, developed over 20 years experience, fit these briefs perfectly. Please see the links on the right hand side of this page to view our range of modular structures that can be specified in a range of sizes and linked together to fit most requirements.
You can specify these modular structures safe in the knowledge that they are engineered to withstand a minimum wind speed of 120kmh (75mph) and snow loads of 10cm. Please just let us know your location and we can specify the correct canopy design for the weather conditions wherever you are, according to British Standards specifications.
If you would like us to provide heating and lighting for patients and guest using the canopies then we can specify and install those too. Not only that, you can also specify the canopy fabric in one of 40 colours and the steelwork in any RAL colour to match your brand or simply create a visually appealing feature.
If these examples have sparked your interest we would be delighted to talk to you about your project, be it large or small, so please call us on 01329 846 518.
